Qigxin: Fragment of a Bodhisattva
HINA, Xinjiang, Bayingolin; 6th–7th century; Clay; H: 31.5 cm; British Museum, London, United Kingdom
The figure's upward look gives it an other-worldly appearance noted on different figures from the site. The face is rounded and a double chin is slightly visible. A hairband sits at the base of a topknot above the pre-molded fringe. The upper body is decorated with an ornament that crosses at a medallion with the same beaded floral design as the one on the armlet, and the skirt is worn very low on the hips. |
