The stele was discovered in Xiangcheng county, Xuchang, in 1957. The body of the stele is divided into five registers, with a curtained top, six niches and a base section. The two niches at the top depicts Maitreya and Avalokitesvara who are surrounded by attendants. The next two niches depict Sakyamuni Buddha seated on lotus thrones under curtained niches. The final two niches show Amitabha Buddha under ogee arches. Despite the similarity between all niches, there are slight variations in the figures. The base section has carvings of a mountain censer flanked by lions. An inscription dates the stele to 568 and Zhang Fuhui as the donor. |
