Fahua Temple Perfect Understanding Hall: Bell
TAIWAN, Tainan; Qing dynasty (1644–1911), dated 1713; Commissioned by Zhaoming; Bronze; H: 127 cm, Diameter: 77 cm
An inscription found on this elegant bell states that it was commissioned by the abbot Zhaoming in 1713.
The hemispherical shoulder of the bell leads into the gentle curve of the waist, culminating in the wavy sound ring at the bottom. The waist is divided into ten panels by embossed horizontal and vertical lines. Each panel in the lower section is inscribed in regular script with the name of one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas. |
