An inscription within a cartouche states that this mural dates from 952 of the Later Zhou dynasty. It is one of two murals depicting Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva that were removed from Cisheng temple and are now kept at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva wears an ornate headdress adorned with a Buddha image and gazes downward, appearing calm and serene. A stole, a dhoti, and ornaments cover the body. Sitting in full lotus position on a throne, the Bodhisattva forms a mudra with each hand. The round face and sturdy body of the Bodhisattva are drawn in Tang dynasty (618-907) style.
