This mural was removed from the wall of Cisheng Temple in 952 during the Five Dynasties (907-960). It is thought to have been painted during the Late Tang period (846-907). Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva wears a headdress, stoles, and a dhoti. The body is adorned with a necklace, earrings, armlets, and beaded ornaments. Standing in tribhanga posture, the Bodhisattva looks focused and peaceful. A long-stemmed lotus is held in the left hand. The figure is outlined with black ink lines. Color is applied to the clothing and jewelry. |
