Statuette of Longevity Buddha

CHINA; Dated 1985; By Liu Guile; Stoneware; H: 23 cm; Foshan New Shiwan Artistic Ceramic Company, Guangdong, China
This statuette is a representation of the Longevity Buddha as an Arhat. It shows him bald with curly hair around the sides and back of his head, a high forehead, straight eyebrows with an urna, eyes cast downwards in contemplation, a prominent nose, lips lightly closed, and a long curly beard. The Buddha sits tranquilly with legs crossed on a stone platform. He wears a simple white robe covering his whole body, and he holds chanting beads in his right hand.
The white of the robe is in stark contrast to the brown skin and dark brown hair and beard. The white crackled glaze forms an irregular pattern on the robe.
