Songgwangsa Temple: Sutra Identification Tags

SOUTH KOREA, South Jeolla, Suncheon; Goryeo dynasty (918–1392); Wood
These tags were used to identify and classify the titles of the Buddhist texts stored in wooden sutra cases. They are two of 43 unique tags kept in Songgwangsa Temple and were listed as Treasure No. 175 in 1962.
Each tag is inscribed with the sutra title and its classification; for example, First Fascicle of the Avatamsaka Sutra" or "Ten Fascicles of the Exegesis on the Collection of the Mahayana Abhidharma." The top and bottom of the tags are carved with decorative patterns and lotuses
