Crowned Buddha

This crowned Buddha stands on a lotus pedestal. The Buddha is sculpted in Lopburi style and is dressed like a member of royalty.
The crown has a diamond-shaped ornament in the center and the headband is lined with leaves. The face is square with a high forehead, joined eyebrows, large eyes, broad nose, wide mouth with full lips, and elongated ears. The shoulders are rounded and the hips are especially pronounced. The upper body is short, while the legs are proportionately longer. Both hands are raised to form the vitarka (teaching) mudra. Five engraved circles can clearly be seen on the palms. There are stylized Dharma wheel ornaments on the necklace and jeweled belt. The upper body is draped in a diaphanous robe that covers both shoulders, while the lower body is covered by a sampot. There is also an outer garment in the form of a cape. The statue exhibits the Lopburi style. |
