Beopjusa Temple: Sudarsana Bodhisattva

SOUTH KOREA, North Chungcheong, Boeun; Unified Silla dynasty (668–935); Granite; H: 237 cm
This Bodhisattva statue is depicted as if in offering and was listed as Treasure No. 1417 in 2004. The worn figure is dressed in a short gamete, and raises the arms to support a bowl-shaped incense burner on a slab. This unique composition was carved from a single piece of granite. It has been inferred from stylistic similarities that the statue was the work of the same artisan who made the pair of stone lion lamps installed at the temple.
