Dasheng Temple Pagoda

Little is known about the history of the pagoda, except that it was built during the Tang dynasty (618-907) and was repaired in 1872 during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
The 13-story, hexagonal, brick pagoda is around 40 m high and built in imitation of a timber structure. The first story occupies 25 sq m. Subsequent stories decrease in size in a proportionate and graceful manner. The bracket sets, balustrades, doors, windows, and niches are constructed from interlocking bricks. Exquisite patterns of lotuses, peonies, and double lines decorate the rest of the pagoda. A spiral staircase leads to the top of the pagoda. |
