Buddha Triad

Bodhisattvas standing on lotus pedestals that are supported by warriors attend the Buddha on either side. The main figure has a lotus nimbus and hair sculpted in whorls. The right hand, with damaged fingers, probably forms the abhaya (fearlessness) mudra, while the left hand opens downwards in the varada (wish-granting) mudra. The layers of the Buddha's loose monastic robe are sculpted in bas-relief and line incisions. The Bodhisattvas wear similar clothing as well as headdresses and ornate ornaments. Petal-shaped nimbuses surround their heads. Due to damage of the mandorla, only traces of decoration are visible. |
