The monk has a high forehead, round face, slender eyes, straight nose, mustache, small mouth, and wispy beard. He wears a crossed collar robe and an outer robe with a clasp on his left shoulder. The monk stands with hands joined, and appears dignified and tranquil.
This figurine was made in Cizhou and was sculpted from clay, upon which a layer of white slip has been applied. The details of the face and clothing have been painted using a black slip, after which the figurine was fired using a transparent glaze. |
