The statue was listed as National Treasure No. 117 in 1963. The Buddha sits in full lotus position with both hands forming the bodhyangi (wisdom fist) mudra. There is no mandorla or nimbus. The appearance and style of the statue were considered contemporary. Join marks found on both the arms, the chest and the knees suggest that the statue was cast in separate parts and subsequently assembled. An inscription carved on the back of the left arm states that assistant magistrate Kim Suchong sponsored the statue in 858. |
